Thanks, Curt, for an excellent overview of 2024. I am sharing it with a friend for whom I know it will be valuable in her work. However the next few months evolve for the future of Tucson Agenda and Arizona Agenda, I hope you will continue to be involved. Your understanding of border issues is outstanding. We need reporting by reporters who understand the world about which they report.
Is anyone else already sick of the way Trump has been allowed to set the agenda for the border since his first term? The so-called “hopeful” bipartisan border bill KEEPS getting brought up as some kind of viable response when in fact it was just rewarmed republican border harrassment and dehumanization , as if the biggest story there was how Trump
played Sinema ( who at least gracefully disappeared afterwards) for the fool she was. To me the biggest story was how, after championing itself as the progressive party that was really going to HELP immigrants, the democrats sold them down the river with nary a word said in the press. From not supporting the asylum process to leaving in place Title 42 restrictions, the democratic party consultant class of billionaires sold one of their biggest blocks of voters down the river and then had the gall to wonder why they didnt attract the latino vote. And the best the national press can do is go back to that ol’ bipartisan border bill as if it promised anything valuable to the people who grow the food, build the housing and pay a portion of their already slave labor paychecks into support systems they will never be allowed to use. Yes, the summary is appreciated but it just brings back the bile associated with the way both parties treat this extremely vulnerable group of people.
Excellent summary
