Call out Ciscomani for being a liar. Call his office. Let your friends, family and even your enemies know how he voted on the budget package. Cutting Medicaid, AHCCCS in Az, will devastate 1/3 of the 7m Arizonans who are on AHCCCS. The Republican legislators in Az all voted for this Trump backed package. Did you really vote for this. My friend will die from kidney failure if he cannot get his regular dialysis. He can’t work because of this disease. Did you vote for sick kids and possible death so the rich could have more tax cuts? Ciscomani did. Call 202 225-2542

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of who stole all the YES for 414 signs? We need to scream that they have been stolen be because most people I talk to don’t realize there is lots of support for the proposition. They say all they see are NO signs. People need to know and except for one small mention in the Agenda, I have not read it anywhere else. Please say it louder!

In my experience, people are rarely caught stealing signs - although it is a common complaint during an election cycle.

If someone is caught, we would write about it. (And, IMHO, almost every other news outlet would too.)

Whoo hoo! Budget deep dives! I'm excited!

My question is: is there anything you might expect the city to pay for that is actually handled by Pima County? Or is there any duplication when it comes to City and County services?

Hi, Brian. We will get into this in the series, but you've focused on a bit of a grey area. The city and the county do work together in certain areas, and others there has been a distinct decision for either the county or the city to handle certain services. Libraries, for example, are handled by the County.

Raul has been good for Tucson and his constituents. BUT, it IS time to pass his seat along to someone who can strongly represent them now. I understand power is hard to give up but so many of these long time legislators just have to let go! On the other note of Ciscomani, you said it perfectly! All of his canned responses/emails from my input to him are WORD SALADS!! It is so frustrating that I now just skim them. He seems to have learned well from the GOP/Trump on how to mix it up & just confuse, oh, and lie. There is absolutely nothing bipartisan about this guy. Even forgot how to apply his Oath of Office when he votes MAGA, which it seems 100% of the time.

I am embarrassed to admit to all and sundry that when i try to respond to your surveys i get caught in an endless loop of password requesting then ending up on substack but still no possibility of answering the survey etc. It makes me sad because i really want to weigh in, particularly on rep gallego--well, and kelly--who have both soured me on voting for military members to be in congress ( its the most undemocratic institution there is)--and, in Gallego's case, the heartwrenching background story of coming from poverty and discrimination only to immediately co-sponsor a bill--now law--that targets the very people he comes from while destroying certain liberties that i thought were a part of the countrys historical benefits ( use of evidence, procedural stability, etc) Having backhanded his own people he is now holding a $5,000 a plate dinner with one of the chryptokings who poured money into the Orange Monster. Does Az politics get any better than this?

It would be good to see how Tucson’s budget. compares to other cities that are comparable to us.

We have a serious shortage of police officers, evidenced by the number of 911 calls that don’t get an officer to respond. Prop 414 wants to add a bunch of CSOs, but I believe that we need more actual police officers. I used to see articles about the pay level here. What do we pay police officers and how does that compare to similar cities.

Hiring police and CSOs are not mutually exclusive, and the requirements for officers are higher (for instance age 18 vs 21 - correct me if I'm wrong). However, CSOs can be a pipeline for hiring future officers.

This series will dig into the starting salaries for new police recruits, but we will also discuss what a typical officer makes in a year. There is a disconnect between the two figures, and overtime (mandatory and voluntary) plays a big role in their take home pay. To your point, Prop 414 would hire both CSOs and police officers. Leadership believes CSOs can help off load lower priority calls to all allow officers to respond to 911 calls that need a fully-equipped unit response.
