We received our first grant and have hired a part-time reporter ... This means we can add some exciting new election coverage into the mix ... Hobbs faces tough choice on housing law.
You need to do a Feature on Steve Kozachik because he is literally a Model for how city council reps across the country can be the Leaders for Change From The Bottom Up. His Plastics Recycle efforts alone have put Tucson on the National news map. His diagnosis of problems at UA management were ahead of everyone. But the parks and water management and helping refugees and other lost souls in Ward 6 is beyond comparing. If he isn't the mayor of Tucson one day then we've done something Wrong here.
Hi, Terry. I hope you're doing well. It may have looked like a political ad, but it wasn't. We don't run political ads. We meant to post Ciscomani's tweet when he announced he was endorsing Trump, which is noteworthy and something we do all the time. But we screwed up when we cropped the image so it ended up looking like an ad, instead of a politician's tweet. After readers brought up how it looked, we fixed it in the online version and explained the cropping mistake in Other News yesterday.
Congrats on the grant! I'm curious to know why some Dems in the state legislature are opposed to the recently passed housing bill mentioned in today's Agenda. I've heard lots of reasons some Dems and Republicans like the bill, but not what or why they don't like it. Zoning is such a complex issue!
So happy about the grant- congratulations! And the new staff member sounds wonderful - I look forward to reading her perspective. Keep chugging along - you make a difference, and will continue to do so even more in the future.
Is Nancy Sharkey related to Jacquline Sharkey, head of journalism dept at UA for a long time? Also, i hope your new reporter will indeed look at the diversity of the Latino vote as it is regularly reported as a monolith and — i often think— overly represents the Cuban vote. Cubans life experiences in this country ( ie “legal residents” as soon as they get to this country) are completely different from other spanish speaking immigrants so i dont think their views are very representative. Or am I dating myself and has that changed? Back when i was studying the island snd its people( early 2000s) once Cubans got here all they had to do to acheive citizenship was to breathe for a year! Quite different from those who have to fear deportation constantly and whose citizen families may vote differently based on their experiences.
And BTW Kozachik's employees never leave and love him like a family member. As do the people of Ward 6

I know you have to make money, but running ads for MAGA candidates???
You will lose my support.

Congrats to all the grant recipients. All are worthy. Cisco just increased the slope on his uphill battle for re-election. We can do better in So. AZ.
Whoo hoo! Congrats on the grant, well deserved!
