Even though Jordan has flamed out as the GOP nominee, we can't let Ciscomani "memory hole" his shameful votes to elect an insurrectionist, who voted to cancel Arizona's votes in 2024, as Speaker of the House.
It’s hard to follow Ciscomani’s logic on his decision to back Jordan. He knows he represents a moderate district that voted for Biden. Heck, even smaller school district governing boards that reside in CD6 refused to elect far right conspiracy acolytes. And, he had to know Jordan would fail, too- his votes were just for show.
So, he made his own re-election, already questionable, a Herculean task. The question remains, why? He doesn’t strike me as stupid. Either he was concerned about death threats for himself and his family (as many republicans have experienced) or he genuinely believed he would face a challenger from the far, far right (who wouldn’t win in this moderate district). Even with one of the reddest of red bases, David Schweikert (CD1) handily fought off a far, far right candidate when he was fresh off an ethics charge and subsequent sentencing of guilt and resulting fines. So, why? Why would Ciscomani risk his seat? He’s either much further into the weeds of the alt right than he wants to appear to his voters or Jordan’s threats are truly terrifying.
Don’t get me wrong, while disgusted he would vote for a traitor to lead the house, I’m delighted he made our job easier to elect Engle as his far better replacement.
